True Legacy
Ethan in the 2011 Christmas Program
"I have a dream that everyone will Stop beliving in evalution like the big bang and that monkeys are our antsesters. I belive someday everyone will go to church and belive that Jesus died on a cross for our sins. I hope people will when they die go to heaven."

When I got home I had barely gotten through the door when he ran up and thrust his papers into my hands. "Read this, Daddy!" he chanted over and over. Once I removed my book bag, coat, and shoes I sat down and read the paper. I was blown away to learn that he had written this paper in class at school. I was deeply touched. As a father who does devotions and prays with his little guy I was blown away. He told me that he learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and his famous speech in class. Then Ethan went on to explain that this was the paper that he was not allowed to write. When his teacher saw what he was writing she asked him to stop. She then explained that he could not write this paper because it would offend people. Ethan was told that he needed to start over with a different "I have a dream" topic. As a father, Christian, and pastor I am heartbroken for my son. My wife and I went on to explain why what he wrote was so offensive to some people. Fortunately, this was not a new topic for us to discuss with Ethan. As we have studied Genesis and the cross we have also talked about people who hate our God. Ethan handled everything very well.
Ethan finally went on to explain that he ended up writing about the need for all people to have compassion on the poor and needy. And the desire we should have to help and care for them. This to me is another outstanding topic. I am deeply proud of my son. My legacy is found in my family. I pray that Ethan and Ari would come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior early on. And that they would obey and pursue him for the rest of their lives.
